Using My History of Abuse Against Me

Reader’s Question

Q:

I am curious to know whether or not Stockholm Syndrome would apply in a case that did not actually involve the “abuser” but rather another individual who found out about some abuse that I suffered and exploited it or used it against me?

A:

Stockholm Syndrome would not apply in the situation you describe. However, a person who exploited your background of abuse or used it against you is actually an abuser or manipulator. Abusers look for weakness, options, and opportunities in others. I’d be very cautious in this situation as you’ve probably found another abuser.
