Taking Cymbalta and Concerta for Depression

Reader’s Question

Q:

I am currently taking Cymbalta and Concerta (1 month) for my depression but I still have problems with insomnia, followed by daytime sleepiness. I am taking Xanax for insomnia. However, my quality of sleep is unrefreshing, and it is difficult getting up in the morning. What should I do?

Thank you very much.

A:

In such cases involving several medications — consult your physician/psychiatrist. Concerta is used for ADHD and like Ritalin, may also have uses for treatment-resistant depression. I am not familiar with the use of Concerta in combination with Cymbalta and for that reason, would strongly recommend that you consult your physician/psychiatrist.
